1st Script Draft

EXT. ORPHANAGE - EVENING
It all starts with an establishing shot of the abandoned orphanage, you see it’s a dull and rainy day. Kate slowly approaches the orphanage and she looks up slowly.

THE CAMERA TILTS UP WITH HER.
She is agitated and doesn’t understand what is going on.

EXTREME CLOSE UPS OF ELEMENTS ON HER FACE INCLUDING; LIPS AND EYE, WHICH THEN CUT TO GRADUALLY WIDER ANGLED SHOTS.

She slowly walks toward the entrance of the orphanage.

CUT TO:
INT. ORPHANAGE - EVENING

THE TITLE SEQUENCE WITH A SPIDER CRAWLING ACROSS THE DERELICT FLOOR WITH THE TEXT ‘ORPHANAGE’ FLOWING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN.

CUT TO:
INT. ORPHANAGE - EVENING

KATE:
Hello?

*Silence*

Hello.. Is there anyone here?

Still after no reply, Kate decides to search around the orphanage in order to figure out what has happened to put it in a derelict state of abandonment.

SHOTS OF KATE LOOKING AROUND THE ORPHANAGE - DURATION 30 SECONDS

Kate’s eye is caught by a particular door, a strange light is moving which is visible through a gap at the bottom of the door. She steps towards the door then suddenly she hears a mysterious noise which makes Kate look over her shoulder.

THE CAMERA IS LOOKING AT HER FROM BEHIND A WALL AND BREATHES HEAVILY AND MOVES BACK INTO HIDING.

She looks back at the door, the light is still moving so she steadily steps forward to investigate the mysterious light gradually getting closer to the door. She turns the handle, the music at this point is tense and dramatic to build up the tension. Kate opens the door but nothing is there.
The room is empty so Kate enters the room. There is nothing in the room expect from a book on the floor. She moves towards it and picks it up.

KATE: she reads the diary and reads out the name on the front cover ‘Rachael’

*cuts to first flashback showing the event that caused the orphanage to burn down*

*cuts back to present*

KATE: Facial expressions show that she’s disturbed by what she reads.
Ghost: is in the same room as Kate and frightens her with strange noises. As she’s unaware of the ghost at present

KATE: she reads on

*Second flashback occurs and reveals the events further*

*cuts out to the present where Kate is confronted face to face with the ghost*

*We then find her in the room of the mental hospital with the nurse calming Kate down*
